Distributed Seismic Navigation System
Introduction
NCS SubSea, Inc. is pleased to offer our Integrated Navigation system for Ocean Bottom
Cable and Transition Zone Seismic Acquisition.
The system is an integration of the EIVA NaviPac system, the NCS SubSea proprietary
“Eider” utility for generation of user header data including gun timing and QC
information into industry standard seismic acquisition systems.
The Eider / NaviPac Shallow Water System is currently in use in the North American
area of operations.
Functional Description
The system is divided into four major sub systems;
- Source Vessel Positioning and source firing
- Cable vessel positioning and cable deployment / retrieval and maintenance
- Vessel synchronization and data management
- Data QC and processing
Acquisition
Real-time navigation and event generation is provided by the EIVA NaviPac system. This package is an accepted hydrographic survey system with a proven ability to accept data from multiple sources and to deal with the requirements of geodetic transformations. A full offset and layback suite of algorithms allows for modeling of towed equipment arrays using vessel heading and track through the water.
Preplots can be displayed as either run-lines, waypoints with individual ground stations or a combination of the two. This allows for efficient deployment, but also facilitates the dispatching of maintenance vessels to individual groups for trouble shooting.
Vessel tracking is inherently available in the system allowing the various vessels on the crew to monitor their locations relative to each other.
Serial connectivity allows for remote configuration and operation of the systems, giving
centralized control of the vessels and their hour by hour tasks.
Data can be input to the system using serial and Ethernet connections, a plethora of
systems are supported including;
- NMEA GPS inputs
- Remote GPS inputs (tailbuoys and headbuoys)
- Gyros
- Echosounders
- USBL and LBL acoustics
- and a myriad of other positioning and hydrographic survey tools.
